2500 year old city : Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple

We started to visit the Meenakshi Amman temple in Madurai, Tamilnadu. Since I always prefer to visit Narayana (Lord krishna) temple, my family took me first to the Narayana Temple in Thadi kombu on the way to Madurai.

Some photos at Narayana Temple in Thadi kombu..

To enter in to the Hindu temples its forbidden to use shoes.. We have to walk on the bare foot.. It was really very hot at that time, and we were unable to take many pictures....
Jeeva and Neena with the person who makes poojas in hindu temples..

Only my sister cooperatest to take some pictures of her wven in that hot floor...

Here there were happy to stand under the roof..

After visiting the Narayana Temple we went to Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple... It is a historic Hindu temple located in the holy city of Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

The temple forms the heart and lifeline of the 2500 year old city of Madurai. This temple has a stunning architecture and a significant testimony for dravidians for their master architecture in sculpting this temple.
The temple walls, streets and finally the city walls (ancient) were built around the temple in concentric squares. Ancient Tamil classics mention that the temple was the center of the city and the streets happened to be radiating out like the lotus and its petals.

It is one of the few temples in Tamil Nadu to have four entrances facing four directions.

Here comes the four entrances at four directions...

Its common to see these kind of arts on the floor of the hindu homes and temples...
and some photos inside the temple...

Things to make poojas... (mainly coconut and bananas)

Person who predicts the furute with the help of parrot... Some people beleive in this....

We all had a very good time in both temples...

We planned to visit some more temples next.. I will post more famous Hindu temples in Tamil nadu soon...
